Key facts
- A company employing a foreign worker must hold an endorsed RPTKA (foreign worker utilisation plan) from the Ministry of Manpower, filed on the Ministry TKA portal.
- Investors, experts and clerics seeking a limited stay permit must provide the RPTKA and a recommendation letter from the relevant ministry.
- A KITAS is granted for a maximum of 2 years and is extendable up to a six-year total stay per one Immigration page (another page states one-year extensions up to 3 years, so confirm); short-term workers get up to 90 days.
- The Ministry reports 140,905 RPTKA endorsements from January to September 2026.
Steps
- Step 1: Employer Sponsorship — The employer must obtain a sponsor license from the Indonesian government before applying for a work visa. The employer must also demonstrate that they cannot find a suitable Indonesian replacement for the job.
- Step 2: Visa Application — The employer applies for the work visa on behalf of the foreigner at a Directorate General of Immigration office. The application process is uncertain and subject to change.
- Step 3: Visa Approval — Once the application is approved, the foreigner can enter Indonesia and obtain the work visa at the immigration office. The visa is typically valid for 1-2 years.
