Residency

Japan — Residency: Permanent Residency

Japan provides a pathway to permanent residence for eligible foreign nationals who satisfy the applicable residence, legal and immigration requirements. Eligibility depends on factors such as the applicant's residence history, immigration status and compliance with Japanese law. Permanent residence allows eligible individuals to live in Japan without the need to continually renew a fixed-term residence status, although it does not automatically confer Japanese citizenship.
